Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly post started by Breaking the Spine, to show books that we are patiently waiting for.

The book we're waiting for this week is:

The Eye of Minds (The Mortality Doctrine #1) by James Dashner
Expected publication: October 8th 2013 by Delacorte Books for Young Readers
Book Description:

An all-new, edge-of-your seat adventure from James Dashner, the author of the New York Times bestselling Maze Runner series, The Eye of Minds is the first book in The Mortality Doctrine, a series set in a world of hyperadvanced technology, cyberterrorists, and gaming beyond your wildest dreams . . . and your worst nightmares.

Michael is a gamer. And like most gamers, he almost spends more time on the VirtNet than in the actual world. The VirtNet offers total mind and body immersion, and it’s addictive. Thanks to technology, anyone with enough money can experience fantasy worlds, risk their life without the chance of death, or just hang around with Virt-friends. And the more hacking skills you have, the more fun. Why bother following the rules when most of them are dumb, anyway?

But some rules were made for a reason. Some technology is too dangerous to fool with. And recent reports claim that one gamer is going beyond what any gamer has done before: he’s holding players hostage inside the VirtNet. The effects are horrific—the hostages have all been declared brain-dead. Yet the gamer’s motives are a mystery.

The government knows that to catch a hacker, you need a hacker.
And they’ve been watching Michael. They want him on their team.
But the risk is enormous. If he accepts their challenge, Michael will need to go off the VirtNet grid. There are back alleys and corners in the system human eyes have never seen and predators he can’t even fathom—and there’s the possibility that the line between game and reality will be blurred forever.

Why I'm excited for this:
It's  James Dashner :)

Spotlight: Stung by Bethany Wiggins

Book Description:
There is no cure for being stung.

Fiona doesn’t remember going to sleep. But when she opens her eyes, she discovers her entire world has been altered—her house is abandoned and broken, and the entire neighborhood is barren and dead. Even stranger is the tattoo on her right hand—a black oval with five marks on either side—that she doesn’t remember getting but somehow knows she must cover at any cost. She’s right.

Those bearing the tattoo have turned into mindless, violent beasts that roam the streets and sewers, preying upon the unbranded while a select few live protected inside a fortress-like wall, their lives devoted to rebuilding society and killing all who bear the mark.

Now Fiona has awakened branded, alone—and on the wrong side of the wall.
 Bethany Wiggins
Interview:

1. Describe yourself in one sentence?

Mormon wife and mother of four finally decides what she wants to be at age 30--a writer!

2. What inspired you to write Stung?
The inspiration for STUNG came from a nightmare, the swine flu outbreak, and a vaccination shortage. If you mix those three things together, you've got an idea of the plot.

3. Book/s you look forward to reading this year?
Level Two by Lenore Applehans. This sounds awesome!

4. Favorite Starbucks drink?
Ha ha. I'm a Mormon and we don't drink coffee. I have never, ever, in my entire life had a drink from Starbucks! Not even water.

Iphigenia Laurus, or Gene, the daughter of a noble family, is uncomfortable in corsets and crinoline, and prefers climbing trees to debutante balls. Micah Grey, a runaway living on the streets, joins the circus as an aerialist’s apprentice and soon becomes the circus’s rising star.

Review: A Game of Thrones (A Song of Fire and Ice #1) by George R.R. Martin

 Title: A Game of Thrones
Author: George R. R. Martin
Published: August 26th 2005 by Spectra
Book Description:
Long ago, in a time forgotten, a preternatural event threw the seasons out of balance. In a land where summers can last decades and winters a lifetime, trouble is brewing. The cold is returning, and in the frozen wastes to the north of Winterfell, sinister forces are massing beyond the kingdom’s protective Wall. To the south, the king’s powers are failing—his most trusted adviser dead under mysterious circumstances and his enemies emerging from the shadows of the throne. At the center of the conflict lie the Starks of Winterfell, a family as harsh and unyielding as the frozen land they were born to. Now Lord Eddard Stark is reluctantly summoned to serve as the king’s new Hand, an appointment that threatens to sunder not only his family but the kingdom itself.

Sweeping from a harsh land of cold to a summertime kingdom of epicurean plenty, A Game of Thrones tells a tale of lords and ladies, soldiers and sorcerers, assassins and bastards, who come together in a time of grim omens. Here an enigmatic band of warriors bear swords of no human metal; a tribe of fierce wildlings carry men off into madness; a cruel young dragon prince barters his sister to win back his throne; a child is lost in the twilight between life and death; and a determined woman undertakes a treacherous journey to protect all she holds dear. Amid plots and counter-plots, tragedy and betrayal, victory and terror, allies and enemies, the fate of the Starks hangs perilously in the balance, as each side endeavors to win that deadliest of conflicts: the game of thrones.

Unparalleled in scope and execution, A Game of Thrones is one of those rare reading experiences that catch you up from the opening pages, won’t let you go until the end, and leave you yearning for more

Spotlight: Gated by Amy Christine Parker

Book Description:
Do the gates keep the unchosen out or the chosen in?
In Mandrodage Meadows, life seems perfect. The members of this isolated suburban community have thrived under Pioneer, the charismatic leader who saved them from their sad, damaged lives. Lyla Hamilton and her parents are original members of the flock. They moved here following the 9/11 terrorist attacks, looking to escape the evil in the world. Now seventeen, Lyla knows certain facts are not to be questioned:

Pioneer is her leader.

Will is her Intended.

The end of the world is near.

Like Noah before him, Pioneer has been told of the imminent destruction of humanity. He says his chosen must arm themselves to fight off the unchosen people, who will surely seek refuge in the compound's underground fortress--the Silo.

Lyla loves her family and friends, but given the choice, she prefers painting to target practice. And lately she'd rather think about a certain boy outside the compound than plan for married life in the Silo with Will. But with the end of days drawing near, she will have to pick up a gun, take a side, and let everyone know where she stands.
Amy Christine Parker
Interview:

1. What inspired you to write the Gated?

I was watching a TV show about people who were building these underground shelters to prepare for the world’s end and it just intrigued me. The shelters were not your run of the mill bomb shelters, but basically luxury apartments under the ground that sold for over a million dollars a piece. It got me thinking about what kind of person might shell out that kind of money and how people become convinced that the end is near. The story grew from there.

2.Book/s you look forward to read this year?

There are so many! It’s hard to name just a few. On the young adult side of things there quite a few of them are also debuts this time around, actually. I’m dying to read Elsie Chapman’s DUALED, Kelsey Sutton’s SOME QUIET PLACE, Romily Bernard’s FIND ME and so, so many others. On the adult side of things I’m dying to get my hands on Stephen King’s next two books set to come out this year-I am a big fan of his and (although it came out this past year), I’m intent on reading Justin Cronin’s THE TWELVE. I really, really liked THE PASSAGE and am dying to see where that story goes next.

3. Favorite Starbucks drink (if coffee drinker)

I’m an iced tea girl and so this would have to be a Venti Black tea/Lemonade.

Spotlight: Reboot by Amy Tintera

  Book Description:
Five years ago, Wren Connolly was shot three times in the chest. After 178 minutes she came back as a Reboot: stronger, faster, able to heal, and less emotional. The longer Reboots are dead, the less human they are when they return. Wren 178 is the deadliest Reboot in the Republic of Texas. Now seventeen years old, she serves as a soldier for HARC (Human Advancement and Repopulation Corporation).

Wren’s favorite part of the job is training new Reboots, but her latest newbie is the worst she’s ever seen. As a 22, Callum Reyes is practically human. His reflexes are too slow, he’s always asking questions, and his ever-present smile is freaking her out. Yet there’s something about him she can’t ignore. When Callum refuses to follow an order, Wren is given one last chance to get him in line—or she’ll have to eliminate him. Wren has never disobeyed before and knows if she does, she’ll be eliminated, too. But she has also never felt as alive as she does around Callum.

The perfect soldier is done taking orders.

Amy Tinera
Interview
1. What inspired you to write Reboot?

When I first started writing REBOOT I was mostly interested in exploring a girl (my main character, Wren) who didn't feel things the way everyone else did. I wanted to write a character who had come to believe she was heartless and emotionless because so many people perceived her that way. And of course I wanted to write the boy who saw through all that and liked her anyway. :)

2. Favorite scene to write?

I'm going to be vague here, because I don't want to give away any spoilers, but I think my favorite scene to write was what I'll call the "dance/fight scene" in the first half of the book. Fighting is one of Wren's favorite things, and getting to mix that up with a bit of romance was so exciting. It's also one of the only scenes in the book that made it from first draft to finished book with very few changes. The version in the book is very, very close to how I wrote it the first time (which almost never happens to me. I rewrite like crazy!).

3. Book/s you look forward to reading this year?

What a tough question! SO MANY. I'll just name a few from the top of my list, otherwise we'll be here all day. :)
JUST ONE DAY by Gayle Forman, MIND GAMES by Kiersten White, DARE YOU TO by Katie McGarry, PRODIGY by Marie Lu (I already read the ARC, and it's amazing), GATED by Amy Christine Parker, SIEGE AND STORM by Leigh Bardugo, and PIVOT POINT by Kasie West. And so many more!

Review: Fifty Shades Freed by EL James

Title: Fifty Shades Freed
Author: EL James
Published: April 17, 2012 by Vintage

Now, Ana and Christian have it all—love, passion, intimacy, wealth, and a world of possibilities for their future. But Ana knows that loving her Fifty Shades will not be easy, and that being together will pose challenges that neither of them would anticipate. Ana must somehow learn to share Christian’s opulent lifestyle without sacrificing her own identity. Just when it seems that their strength together will eclipse any obstacle, misfortune, malice, and fate conspire to make Ana’s deepest fears turn to reality.
