Book Description:
Breathtaking new YA SF from the author of the Faeriewalker series
Sixteen-year-old Nadia Lake comes from a high-class Executive family in the Corporate States. Her marriage has been arranged with the most powerful family in her state, which means she lives a life of privilege but also of public scrutiny, followed everywhere by photographers, every detail of her private life tabloid fodder. But her future is assured, as long as she can maintain her flawless public image — no easy feat when your betrothed is a notorious playboy.
Nathan Hayes is the heir of Paxco — controller of the former state of New York, and creator of human replication technology, science that every state and every country in the world would kill to have. Though Nadia and Nate aren’t in love, they’ve grown up close, and they (and the world) are happy enough with their match.
Until Nate turns up dead, and as far as everyone knows, Nadia was the last person to see him alive.
When the new Nate wakes up in the replication tanks, he knows he must have died, but with a memory that only reaches to his last memory backup, he doesn’t know what killed him. Together, Nadia and Nate must discover what really happened without revealing the secrets that those who run their world would kill to protect.

My thoughts:
What excites me about this book is the plot about replication and how it shakes
our values. I love controversial books!
Also I like
the cover, it’s very futuristic. I was charmed and excited to get lost inside
the book. It has the Dystopian vibe that I’m crazy about.
Okay, after
reading Replica. I was in-between of liking it or not. There were some issues……
For the
positive side, the plot almost tells us everything about the book, leaving only
the mystery behind Nate’s death. So you already get a clue on what’s happening
(There was no “I am lost moment.”) Also, it’s a bit Sci-fi so I thought the
process and cause of replication will be told in a nerdy way (complicated
explanations). There was no information nightmare! -whew- Instead, it was
explained simple.
I also like
the twist Jenna Black put into the story. A girl from a privilege family betrothed
to play boy millionaire heir. The story seems to be generic right? But like I said,
Jenna gave it some spice -hihi- Read this book to find out.
As for the
main character, Nadia is easy to connect with. She is the most believable among
the bunch. I admire her perceptions especially on her given situation. How she
was able to handle it made me like her more.
For the
negative part, I didn’t like the pacing. It was slow for me. I got bored to
some parts and did some skipping – yikes- . Also, I didn’t like Nate. I find
him a bit arrogant and selfish. His character is childish very different to
Nadia so I didn’t see their connection only disparity.
Lastly, I
love books with sugary romance. This book didn’t give me any toothaches.
Overall,
Replica is a good and light read. If you like Dystopian and Sci-fi then this
book is for you. I’m still giving this series another shot so I will definitely
check the second book.
I’m giving
this, 3 Cloned Whales.
It's a shame that the pacing wasn't brilliant in this, but I'm glad that you were able to connect with the main character well. I was looking forward to reading this a few months ago, but I seem to have forgotten about it since then! Thanks for the helpful review. :)
ReplyDeleteThe premise behind this book sounds exciting! I don't always mind slower-paced books so maybe I'll give it a try sometime. I'm curious about this twist you speak of...
