Book Description:

But while this union with Horeb, the son of her tribe’s leader, will bring a life of riches and restore her family’s position within the tribe, it will come at the price of Jayden’s heart.

Then a shadowy boy from the Southern Lands appears. Handsome and mysterious, Kadesh fills Jayden’s heart with a passion she never knew possible. But with Horeb’s increasingly violent threats haunting Jayden’s every move, she knows she must find a way to escape—or die trying.
With a forbidden romance blossoming in her heart and her family’s survival on the line, Jayden must embark on a deadly journey to save the ones she loves—and find a true love for herself.
Set against the brilliant backdrop of the sprawling desert, the story of Jayden and Kadesh will leave readers absolutely breathless as they defy the odds and risk it all to be together.

My Thoughts:

Forbidden is such a rich read. Historical and romance lovers will enjoy this gem.

The story took place in ancient Mesopotamia before the time of Jesus. Jayden the protagonist has been through a lot of sorrow. Her betrothal to Horeb, the son of the tribe leader is getting closer too. She then met a traveling stranger named Kadesh and friendship turns into something more. Who will she choose?

The world-building is deliciously good. It is authentic, it’s like you were there in 1759 BC. The way the author wrote Jayden’s world is convoluted but easy to digest. The pacing is fluid with no trace of dullness. The story did not focus on the romance angle only but also on the political and adventure aspect as well.  The story has depth in it which make the book much thought-provoking. I also like the elements she included in this book. Romance, History, Adventure and Action.

What made this book such a page turner is the cat and mouse moments. The running/chasing provided an adrenaline rush.
The character building is good too. Jayden is just 16 years old but she carries herself like a woman. She was child-like at first. But due to certain circumstances, she matures well as the story goes further. Kadesh is the knight and shining armour. He is the mysterious one with great courage. Horeb, is something else LOL. You have to read this book to find out more.

The romance-angle is not that good for me. If you believe in love at first sight then you will like this book. Apparently, I don’t believe in such thing.  Though, the scenes between the two characters gave butterflies in my stomach.

Over all, Forbidden is a great read. I wanted to read more from this author. I like her writing style. I recommend this book to historical and romance lovers.

I give this 4 Whales

  1. I was looking forward to reading this book, but the mere mention of love at first sight makes me wary. I only believe in falling in love at first sight with shoes...not with people. Lol.
