Review: Steelheart (The Reckoners #1) by Brandon Sanderson

Buy The Book
Title: Steelheart (The Reckoners #1)
Author: Brandon Sanderson
Published: September 24th, 2013 by Delacorte Press
Book Description:
There are no heroes.

Ten years ago, Calamity came. It was a burst in the sky that gave ordinary men and women extraordinary powers. The awed public started calling them Epics.

But Epics are no friend of man. With incredible gifts came the desire to rule. And to rule man you must crush his wills.

Nobody fights the Epics... nobody but the Reckoners. A shadowy group of ordinary humans, they spend their lives studying Epics, finding their weaknesses, and then assassinating them.

And David wants in. He wants Steelheart—the Epic who is said to be invincible. The Epic who killed David's father. For years, like the Reckoners, David's been studying, and planning—and he has something they need. Not an object, but an experience.

He's seen Steelheart bleed. And he wants revenge.

My thoughts:

Never heard about the author until I saw James Dashner (author of The Maze Runner and The Eye of Minds) promoting him and his book and also Danielle recommending it to me.

When I read the description, I'm sold. Bought the book right away and devoured it. Figuratively if you know what I mean.

It throws you right away to the action. Even the back stories are amazing and action-packed. I sense that if you like action-packed and minimal romance kind of story, this is the book for you. My own description for this book is that comics in book form. Literal superhumans in existence in the story line and I like that almost all of them are villains.

Pacing is actually good. No wasted moment throughout the book. It advances the story and it feels like there's no filler chapters.

Characters are strong. The main protagonists is well written and strong with a hint of vulnerability. A perfect balance of not a perfect character but has flaws here and there. Even his companions. I like how they contributed to the overall story and also how they function as a group.

I honestly can't wait for it to become a movie. I feel like when I was reading it, I said to myself it will be good to see this in the movies.

This book was not a disappointment and definitely worth the time and money spent on it.

5 Whales!!!!!! Definitely.
