Review: Dreaming Awake (Falling Under #2) by Gwen Hayes

Title: Dreaming Awake (Falling Under #2)
Author: Gwen Hayes
Published: January 3rd 2012 by NAL Trade

Book Description:

She fell for him in a nighttime world. But the time for dreaming is past—and the here-and-now can be just as fragile their love…

When Theia Alderson first encountered a mysterious, handsome boy in her dreams, she never imagined how finding Haden Black—and falling in love—could change her life. To save Haden, Theia sacrificed everything. And the dangerous bargain she made could have lasting repercussions.

Now Theia has returned to Serendipity Falls, and she finds herself struggling with the same deadly hungers that have tortured Haden. When students at their high school fall prey to a mysterious illness, Theia can’t help but wonder if Haden’s control is slipping—and how much longer she’ll have a grip on her own.

And still the nightmare realm of Under won’t let them go. Someone from Haden’s past is determined to destroy Theia from the inside out, starting with those closest to her, forcing Theia to choose between family and friends and a love that may have been doomed from the start…

My Thoughts:

How will you quench the thirst of the demon within?

The story begins with Theia who’s finally back in the human world and she’s struggling to get her normal life back, but with an inner demon in her, she’s afraid that she might lose control. Her relationship with Haden goes off in a rollercoaster ride, Mara is still after her, and to add to that problem, her classmates have mysteriously started getting sick and some of them are even acting weird around her. Theia suspects that Haden could be behind all this, but can she handle the truth once the answers are out?

I Hate and Love this book at the same time. I hate it because it made me cry, leaving me a feeling of dread when I finished it, and I loved it because it also made me cry. (Redundant much?) But seriously, there are only a few books that have made me cry, and this is one of them. The actual reason for my tears is because of that one character that I really loved, and I’m not gonna spoil it here.
I enjoyed reading Dreaming Awake than the first book, Falling Under. The characters (even the secondary ones) have grown so much, especially Theia. She’s bolder, and is now able to stand up for herself in order to protect the people she loves.
There’s too much drama in this book in terms of Theia and Haden’s relationship, which is over the top for me. This time around, Hayes gave one POV chapter for Amelia and Donny, which is really cool since I finally get to know what they think. I liked Donny more after I read her POV. Amelia’s POV was really sad… *sniffs*
Over all, Dreaming Awake was a fun and light read, and also waaayyy better than the first book. It’s fast paced, and it keeps you thinking until the end. Some questions were still left unanswered, and I’m dying to know what they are!
There’s no info about a third book yet, but I really hope that there will be one.

I give this book four whales.
