Review- A Long, Long Sleep by Anne Sheehan

Title: A Long, Long Sleep
Author: Anna Sheehan
Published: August 9th 2011 by Candlewick

Book Description:

Rosalinda Fitzroy has been asleep for sixty-two years when she is woken by a kiss. Locked away in the chemically induced slumber of a stasis tube in a forgotten subbasement, sixteen-year-old Rose slept straight through the Dark Times that killed millions and utterly changed the world she knew. Now, her parents and her first love are long gone, and Rose— hailed upon her awakening as the long-lost heir to an interplanetary empire— is thrust alone into a future in which she is viewed as either a freak or a threat. Desperate to put the past behind her and adapt to her new world, Rose finds herself drawn to the boy who kissed her awake, hoping that he can help her to start fresh. But when a deadly danger jeopardizes her fragile new existence, Rose must face the ghosts of her past with open eyes— or be left without any future at all

My Thoughts:

It should have been a short- animated sleep. But this time Rose, wakes up to find her past long gone and her future full of peril.

I am not crazy about the cover but the plot made me buy this book. Sleeping beauty re-telling with a twist. The setting is not on a typical castle with thorns and prince charming. It was set in the future, where the world is technologically inclined. I love how the author described Rose's world. It was very believable. Rose is the main character, she emerges from a long long sleep. She woke up in a world different from hers, all her loved ones are dead and the world was brought down by an illness (Post-Apocalypse). She was lost, damaged and neglected. Her parents are cruel. They kept her in stasis while the world around her changes. Bren, the boy who woke her up from a kiss became her companion. He taught her how to adapt. Though Rose's feeling towards him grew, Bren sees her more of a friend. This book is a page turner even though I find it a bit slow in the beginning. Curiosity kept me going, there were many unanswered questions. I want to know more about Rose's parents and siblings. The last few chapters and the ending was a shocker!!!.It left me with my mouth hanging open.
Overall, this book is okay. It was a bit slow for me in the beginning, all you have to do is to hold on to it, it was worth it in the end. I would recommend this to people who loves re-telling of classic stories.
I give this book 3.5 whales

  2. I loved this one. It is one of those that I fell in love with the cover, brought it home not expecting for it to be anything special. But it was special, for me. I thought that it was unique and fast paced. I really enjoyed it! Thanks for the great review. I am sorry that it wasn't as good for you.
