Review: Fracture by Megan Miranda

Title: Fracture
Author: Megan Miranda
Published: Jan 17th 2012 by Walker Childrens
Book Description:
Eleven minutes passed before Delaney Maxwell was pulled from the icy waters of a Maine lake by her best friend Decker Phillips. By then her heart had stopped beating. Her brain had stopped working. She was dead. And yet she somehow defied medical precedent to come back seemingly fine. Everyone wants Delaney to be all right, but she knows she's far from normal. Pulled by strange sensations she can't control or explain, Delaney finds herself drawn to the dying. Is her altered brain now predicting death, or causing it?

Then Delaney meets Troy Varga, who recently emerged from a coma with similar abilities. At first she's reassured to find someone who understands the strangeness of her new existence, but Delaney soon discovers that Troy's motives aren't quite what she thought. Is their gift a miracle, a freak of nature-or something much more frightening?

For fans of best-sellers like Before I Fall and If I Stay, this is a fascinating and heart-rending story about love and friendship and the fine line between life and death

*Spoiler Alert*

My Thoughts:

"If you have one day left to live, what would you do?"

When I saw the trailer of this book, I was salivating to read it. It is unique and the cover looks amazing.  I love the story, it was a page turner. I mean, the scenario is bone-chilling. A girl fell on the ice, literally trapped under freezing water. This book is an attention grabber.
Delaney and her best friend Decker went out for a walk. They were venturing out even walking across the frozen lake. The story took a great turn when the ice cracked and Delaney fell on the ice. She is dead for eleven minutes. She woke up in the hospital with a little knowledge on what happened. She was dead for eleven minutes, enough to kill the brain. Her brain scans depict damages; she should have short term memories loss or memory lapses but Delaney is normal and fine. But something had changed, she feel some tingling sensations when she is close/near to people who are close to dying. Is she the cause of their deaths?
She then met a guy name Troy who happens to know what she had been through. Delaney was perplexed, why is she drawn to him?  Troy and Delaney went through a similar situation, they both a have a connection to dying people. But something about him is wrong. I don’t want to put spoilers so I’ll give you a hint. Troy and Delaney have different perspective about their ability.
The characters are well made; they were believable. I always wanted to have a guy best friend. Decker is my favorite character in this book; he is very sweet. He visits Delaney every day, prioritizing her more than himself. He feel so guilty about the accident, he blames himself on what happened to her. I like Delaney as well. I connected to her, since she is witty, a hard core nerd and brave. The author made a good job in describing the character’s emotions. I find myself crying and laughing almost at the same time. This book is such a fine read. Delaney’s world is very realistic. The high school drama, parties and boys gave spark to the story.  The boys are drool worthy. I can’t pick among Decker, Troy and Carson -sigh- I envy Delany for capturing 3 guys.
Over all, this book is fun and light read. I recommend this book to paranormal lovers and for those who love suspense. I would definitely keep an eye on Megan Miranda, I can’t believe Fracture is her first book.

I give this book 4 whales
