REVIEW: THE HUNT BY ANDREW FUKUDA

Title: The Hunt
Author: Andrew Fukuda
Expected Publication: May 8, 2012 by St. Martin's Griffin
ARC taken from Netgalley
Book Description:

Don’t Sweat. Don’t Laugh. Don’t draw attention to yourself. And most of all, whatever you do, do not fall in love with one of them.
Gene is different from everyone else around him. He can’t run with lightning speed, sunlight doesn’t hurt him and he doesn’t have an unquenchable lust for blood. Gene is a human, and he knows the rules. Keep the truth a secret. It’s the only way to stay alive in a world of night—a world where humans are considered a delicacy and hunted for their blood.
When he’s chosen for a once in a lifetime opportunity to hunt the last remaining humans, Gene’s carefully constructed life begins to crumble around him. He’s thrust into the path of a girl who makes him feel things he never thought possible—and into a ruthless pack of hunters whose suspicions about his true nature are growing. Now that Gene has finally found something worth fighting for, his need to survive is stronger than ever—but is it worth the cost of his humanity?

 My Thoughts:

This book was suggested to me by TheUnseelieNerd who is a Dystopian addict compared to me. :D (Peace Dani) At first I was a little bit skeptical to read it since I dont want to read some half-assed writing or a book written just because of the hype of dystopian novel and Hunger Games. I read the synopsis and finally I said why don't I give the story a try. Besides, the protagonist is a male and that was my glimmer of hope that this might be a good read. Based on my experience in reading The Maze Runner Trilogy, I really like reading a book with a man's POV because I can relate to the thought process.

Onwards to the proper review. Reading the first 100 pages of the book, my fear of this book becoming a copycat of the Hunger Games is growing so fast. I mean there are lot of similarities or analogy in which it can be attributed to some parts of the Hunger Games.

But after that similarities have ended. Andrew Fukuda managed to write his own story. He was able to build some excitement on the majority of the book. I believe the term is "Leaving you at the edge of your seat"? Am I correct? Knowing from the synopsis Gene is a human. Gene as a human must conceal his identity within the pack of blood human thirsty beings (no they are not really the vampires that you know in which they suck your blood only) This "vampires" will eat you through and through if you are not careful. Only your clothes will remain after they feast on you.

This hiding of Gene happens througout the book which makes it more exciting to read. Your reaction will be "shit is he gonna be discovered". Some good twists and turns there and in the end you will definitely know there will be a second part. End with a major cliffhanger (in which I guessed it even before I reached that part)

I give it 4 whales.

  2. Okay LOVE this review! I'm such a dystopian fan myself and hearing that it's from a guy's point of view, that makes it a little bit different than the Hunger Games does it not? I can't wait to read this myself. Great review!
