How far would you go against your nature to protect the person you love from yourself?

       The book was told in Calder’s perspective, a merman who’s been abstaining on killing humans. That’s right! This isn’t just the typical mermaid story that Disney popularized. Lies Beneath is all about mermaids who lure humans into the deep in order to suck out their essence, especially those happy emotions. Calder has been trying to hold out his need to kill humans, seeing it as a challenge on how long he can “not” murder anyone. Apparently, his three sisters think that it’s crazy.

                Calder has been trying to stay far away from his sisters as possible, but when they found out that Hancock is back to Superior Lake, he has no choice but to go back there to acquire Hancock’s debt to them, even if it means being with his sisters once again.

                I absolutely LOVE the plot of this book! It’s refreshing and a fun read. The first parts were a bit dragging, but halfway, it already hooked me until the end. Calder is an interesting narrator. He’s dependent, caring, and funny. And sometimes, he kinda reminded of Jace from mortal instruments. I don’t know why but during reading, I can’t help but think about him. Lily Hancock is another interesting character. I give her a cookie for not swooning over Calder ever since their first meeting, in fact, she’s pretty resistant to his charms, which is new to me since most YA books I’ve read are about heroines who instantly falls head over heels over a gorgeous guy they just met. I love how Calder and Lily’s relationship blossoms into something sweet and romantic, and I can really feel their chemistry.

                Over all, Lies beneath is a very enjoyable and fast read. It’s unique and riveting, and those who love paranormal romance and mermaids will definitely enjoy this one.
