Book Description:
Kaia disappeared for five years. Now she's back and her planet is on the brink of war.
The new "Numbers" program, created by the Tueors’ leader, tracks and isolates demigods. Kaia's friend, Catrina, refuses to take part, and that makes her the most dangerous Number of all.
It's Kaia's duty to gather and protect the treasures of the gods. But neither the treasures nor Catrina are what they appear to be.
As the day a dire prophesy foresees draws near, will Kaia reverse the gears of fate, or will everything she's ever loved be burned away by the flames of war?

My
Thoughts:
This is the sequel to
the first book, The Chosen and this is where Kaia, our heroine, continues her
journey to fulfill her duty after she disappeared for 5 years. A lot of things
have changed, especially with the “Numbers” program that tracks down demigods. Even
though this is the second book, it can be read as a standalone since some of
the important events in the first book was explained here as well, so the
readers won’t be confused with the story.
Ms. Freitas was kind
enough to give me a paperback copy of the book (Thank you so much!) and I can
say that she really improved a lot in terms of writing, compared to her first
book. Once again, we enter the world wherein gods, demigods, mermaids,
vampires, and other mythical creatures co-exist. Kaia has grown a lot in this
book, and she’s not the naïve girl we know in the first book. There are a lot
of actions here, although there were parts that were boring because of the long
conversations and travelling. :D And there are also a lot of minor characters
that I lost track of who’s who.
There’s also a hint of love in this one as
well, and I’m definitely rooting for Kaia and Reeze! (Oh please let them be
together!) And I’m still a bit confused with Derek’s feelings for Catrina
because at times he seemed so worried and overprotective of her and I wonder if
he even sees her as more than a friend. I don’t know yet, but hopefully the
third book will explain more of it (and more Kaia and Reeze please!)
The ending was such a
cliffhanger, only making me wonder what will happen in the next book. I’m
really working forward for the 3rd installment, and hopefully it
will be better than the first 2!
I give this book 3 whales.
The setting and characters sound fascinating. :-)
