Review: Mark of Athena (Heroes of Olympus #3) by Rick Riordan

Title: Mark Of Athena (Heroes of Olympus #3)
Author: Rick Riordan
Published:  October 2nd 2012 by Hyperion Book CH
Book Description:
Annabeth is terrified. Just when she's about to be reunited with Percy—after six months of being apart, thanks to Hera—it looks like Camp Jupiter is preparing for war. As Annabeth and her friends Jason, Piper, and Leo fly in on the Argo II, she can’t blame the Roman demigods for thinking the ship is a Greek weapon. With its steaming bronze dragon masthead, Leo's fantastical creation doesn't appear friendly. Annabeth hopes that the sight of their praetor Jason on deck will reassure the Romans that the visitors from Camp Half-Blood are coming in peace.

And that's only one of her worries. In her pocket Annabeth carries a gift from her mother that came with an unnerving demand: Follow the Mark of Athena. Avenge me. Annabeth already feels weighed down by the prophecy that will send seven demigods on a quest to find—and close—the Doors of Death. What more does Athena want from her?
Annabeth's biggest fear, though, is that Percy might have changed. What if he's now attached to Roman ways? Does he still need his old friends? As the daughter of the goddess of war and wisdom, Annabeth knows she was born to be a leader, but never again does she want to be without Seaweed Brain by her side.
Narrated by four different demigods, The Mark of Athena is an unforgettable journey across land and sea to Rome, where important discoveries, surprising sacrifices, and unspeakable horrors await. Climb aboard the Argo II, if you dare....

MY THOUGHTS:

So let me say this from the start, This is by far THE BEST BOOK in the Heroes of Olympus Series.

I guess it is no secret of you arrive at this book 3 both camps, the Roman and The Greek have joined forces. Or at least the people involved in the quests from the 2 previous books. And I think it really did a huge impact on this book. It made it more diverse and really dynamic since there are a lot of characters to play with.

Positive thing number 1 for me is that the quest is equally good and interesting as the previous ones. There are some gods, demigods and monsters which are really fun to read. They add a good flavor to the overall story.

And also for me the personality of each of the main characters are believable and it is nice to see the human side of them in this book. makes it much more realistic compared to them being portayed always as some demigods who have powers and always wins.

There was a vulnerability and raw emotions  also which I like very very much.

Lastly I guess this is also the best ending so far in the series since it is a nice transition from this book with House of Hades. It will have a good continuity.

Now on to some criticisms I can say.

The first is that the cover was misleading!! I think I expected it to happpen but when it happened I was disappointed on how it happened.

Second one is some parts are really predictable. You will be able to someone sense what will happen or who will appear and who will be their enemy.

Overall like I said this is the best book in the series so far!!

I give it 5 whales :D

  1. My friend Sarah reviewed this a few days back and she sounded absolutely thrilled. I tend to stay away from books based on Greek mythology for no particular reason other than being a bit tired of it, but I guess this sounds too good to pass.
    Great review!

  2. Predictability can sometimes be an issue for me, but if the rest is enjoyable enough, I am happy to overlook it. I feel like such a failure as a reader in that I haven't tried anything by this author before. :D I need to pick up this series one day! Lovely review. :)
