Spolight: Belonging (Temptation #2) by Karen Ann Hopkins

Belonging by Karen Ann Hopkins

Expected Publication: May 1st 2013 by Harlequin Teen
Book Description:
"Against all odds, Rose and Noah Fell in love. It should be forever, easy. But it won't be. Because he's Amish and she's not.

"Amish pics taken at my farm in Northern Kentucky"
- Karen Ann Hopkins

What is Amish?
A group of traditionalist Christian church fellowships that form a subgroup of the Mennonites churches. The Amish are known for simple living, plain dress, and reluctance to adopt many conveniences of modern technology.
Members who do not conform to these expectations and who cannot be convinced to repent are excommunicated.
They typically operate their own on-room schools and discontinue formal education at grade eight (age 13/14). They value rural life, manual labor and humility.

Thoughts:
"My knowledge about Amish is a bit sketchy. After reading Temptation, I found many interesting things about their culture, traditions and way of thinking. I was fascinated!

Imagine a life without computers, cars, cellphones, TV etc... It's like living in the 1880's with no technology and modern conveniences . Can you imagine? Can I survive?  Hell no :)

  1. I think this may be worth checking out. I like the idea of a simpler life, mine is too hectic some days. This looks like an introduction to another world on earth. :-)

    1. I sort of agree with you, it's nice to get away from hectic life. But not forever :D Thanks for visiting emaginette.

  2. This is such an awesome post that you've shared with us! I always wanted to read Temptation, but then I didn't end up requesting it, and then I felt so bad when all the praising reviews came in. I like it when authors tend to focus on areas that I've never considered. I adore the cover to the second book too, it's so pretty! I definitely will have to get my hands on the first book now! :)

    1. Hi Jasprit,
Read the first book, you won't regret it. Again, Amish fascinates me. Their culture and way of thinking is unique. Plus forbidden love story is kinda my thing :)

  3. It became apparent when The Hallowed Ones came out that I know next to nothing about the Amish culture. I really need to learn more, and this seems like a great opportunity. Thank you for bringing it to my attention.

    1. Hi Maja,
The Hallowed Ones is my first book with Amish. I also like that book. My knowledge is still a bit sketchy. But lately, I've been doing some research about it. :)

  4. Ha! I wouldn't be able to survive either! I just went 10 days without electricity due to Hurricane Sandy and I felt like I was practically Amish. And we even had a small generator! I could most definitely not live that way forever. But I find their culture to be quite interesting. I became super intrigued by the Amish community after reading The Hallowed Ones by Laura Bickle. I will definitely have to check this series out!

    1. Jesse,
WOW! 10 days without electricity? I can't imagine. I enjoyed The Hallowed Ones too. Be sure to check Temptation out. If you're into forbidden love, then you'll love this book :)

  5. I've heard about amish before! (though I don't think I knew the term to go with it) And I don't think I will survive. Well...actually before I got into blogging I didn't mind shutting off my phone and laptop and other devices and all I did was read. XD But, now my life is different, so HOW CAN I DO THAT! I would be glancing at the the laptop way to many times. XD

  6. I remember when I read Temptation, I was quite annoyed at Noah and Rose, but I really do want to find out what happens next :p But I really do love Amish stories for their change of pace. If you're interested, you should try reading Beverly Lewis, who writes about the Amish community(:

(Oh, and this is quite pushy, but would you be interested in contributing to a free book-review magazine I'm making? The details are here: http://www.allsortsofbooks.blogspot.jp/2012/11/looking-for-contributors-to-december.html and there's no need to create original content.)

  7. I read The Hallowed Ones and loved getting to know more about the Amish culture, so I hope to give this series a try too. And wow, that cover! It is beautiful. Makes me want to run through a corn field or something. ;)

  8. A beautiful and compelling tale of a young couple in love, and the people that are trying to tear them apart. Highly recommended.
