Title: Sea of Shadows (Age of Shadows #1)
Author: Kelley Armstrong
Publication: April 8th 2014 by HarperCollins
Book Description:
In the Forest of the Dead, where the empire’s worst criminals are exiled, twin sisters Moria and Ashyn are charged with a dangerous task. For they are the Keeper and the Seeker, and each year they must quiet the enraged souls of the damned.

Only this year, the souls will not be quieted.

Ambushed and separated by an ancient evil, the sisters’ journey to find each other sends them far from the only home they’ve ever known. Accompanied by a stubborn imperial guard and a dashing condemned thief, the girls cross a once-empty wasteland, now filled with reawakened monsters of legend, as they travel to warn the emperor. But a terrible secret awaits them at court—one that will alter the balance of their world forever.

My Thoughts:

This is my first book from Kelley Armstrong. I know right? It’s a shame that this is my first book from her. Sea of Shadows is definitely a keeper. It’s creepy, daunting and action-filled. A must read for paranormal and action lovers.

The story is about the twins with big responsibility. Each must protect their village from the dark forces of the forest. Along the way, the girls also must find their strengths and to conquer their weaknesses in order to defeat evil. Will they able to do so? Despite the terror?  “Love will find its way” Read this amazing book to find out more.

First of, the story is seen in multiple perspective. This made the story broader with no loop holes since you get to picture every scene from each side of characters. But the author will keep you blinded. What really are the Shadow Stalkers? Can the Seeker and Keeper protect their village, and also themselves from the avenging evil?

The world-building is atmospheric. It’s dark, creepy and BLOODY. I like gore stories and this one will tickle your inner evil. The Forest of the Dead reminds me The Dark Forest in Harry Potter.

My only problem is the pacing. They author gave suspense and many unanswered questions but too long for my dying curiosity. I was flipping the pages and somewhat getting tired already. I was left dehydrated and thirsty for answers.

The characters are the highlight of the book. It’s diverse and memorable. I love Ashyn and Moira’s love for one another. Ronan and Gavril gave twists and sweetness to the story.

Overall, the book is great for adventure and gore lovers. This book is not for the faint hearted.

I give this book 3 Whales.
