Buy The Book
Title: House of Secret (House of Secrets #1)
Author: Chris Columbus, Ned Vizzini
Publication: April 23, 2013 by Blazer + Bray
Book Description:
The Walker kids had it all: loving parents, a big house in San Francisco, all the latest video games . . . but everything changed when their father lost his job as a result of an inexplicable transgression. Now the family is moving into Kristoff House, a mysterious place built nearly a century earlier by Denver Kristoff, a troubled writer with a penchant for the occult.

Suddenly the siblings find themselves launched on an epic journey into a mash-up world born of Kristoff’s dangerous imagination, to retrieve a dark book of untold power, uncover the Walker family’s secret history and save their parents . . . and maybe even the world.

My Thoughts:

Totally planned on reading this book based on it's author, J.K. Rowling's promotion, the appearance of the actual book pages which are the shredded type on the edge (if you get what I am saying?) and also the cover of the book. So those were my reasons why I decided to pick it up.

What I like about the beginning of the book is that it throws you already on the story. With minimal back story on the family's situation and also the mysterious air about, that is what kept me interested at the early parts of the book.

Continuing on, when the plot started advancing, it was so good up to the end. I feel like the there's a lot of high moments in the high-low moment ratio of the whole story. I like that kind of pacing from time to time. (Damn I seem to be creating my own terminologies here sorry)

Kind of spoiler beware skip this paragraph if you dont want to be spoiled

And who wouldn't want their books come alive and you get to live the events of it. ( I would die if Harry Potter came to life, said my yours truly a Muggle) That was the thing the made me say, this book is perfect.

Spoilers finished

Although there are some problems here and there it was very minimal to me. I just felt like some things should have been exposed more but I guess it will just be on the succeeding books.

I can say that this book is adventurous and I really liked that there's still a continuation for it :D

I give this book 4 whales.

  1. I hadn't actually heard much about this book from reviewers (though I do remember the publisher pushing it) but it sounds like something I might like. I'm glad you thought it was an adventurous read, despite the small problems. Great review! :)
