1.If you had to describe yourself using three words, they would be…

 Passionate. Driven. Sensitive. (Or hotheaded, single-minded and labile, depending on how you want to look at it J).

2. Tell us a little about Indigo Blackwood.

 Indie’s a popular high school cheerleader with hot football-star boyfriend and a sarcastic sense of humor. But behind the cool-girl exterior, she’s also got a huge heart.

3. If you were to brew a potion, what would it be?

 I want to say a health potion but that would be boring, so how about an illusion potion? A potion that gives the illusion of a showered, well-dressed, polished author so that I don’t have to go to all the effort of bathing and dressing in the morning . . . or something else less lazy and gross.  

4. What's your next project?

 My next project is the currently-untitled sequel to HEXED. It comes out in 2015. I’m also working on a YA sci-fi romance set in the East Coast of Canada that I’m really, really excited about.

5.  If you could visit any place in the world, where would you choose to go?

 That’s such a hard question! There are zillions of places I desperately want to go but can’t afford and have no time to visit. I guess if I had to pick just one place I’d probably go with Eastern Europe. Specifically Prague, Czech Republic. It seems like the perfect mix of history, romance, and culture. And all the gothic spires! *fans self*

1.Describe your book in 2 sentences.

 When he is the only survivor in a drunk driving accident that kills his three best friends, Tucker is so broken emotionally, physically, and mentally that he attracts the Ferryman who, in Greek mythology, takes souls across the River Acheron to the land of the dead.  Now it's up to Tuck to decide what living really means and to fight his way back from the edge of a different dimension to his home in good old Oklahoma.

2. What inspired you to write, Everything Breaks?
 always use writing as a way of figuring things out, Dannielle, you know?   I've done that ever since third grade, when I learned cursive and the power of writing stories.   My parents died within a few months of each other about three years ago, and I was of course heartbroken.   I know one big reason I began writing this book was to figure for myself out what lasts after death, what remains when everything breaks.   Tucker has to put his friends in place in his heart, just as I've had to do while grieving for my parents.  In fact, I based a main character, Tuck's step-grandfather Bud, on my dad.   There were other things that went into my decision to take on a story like this.  After all, I'd never done a supernatural book before.  But I think that was the compelling reason, to grieve for my parents and to try and figure out how to let them go and somehow keep them as well.

3. Book/s you look forward to read this year?
have a pile of books I'm looking forward to reading, like I'll bet you do, too.  I love character-driven stories, both adult and YA.  I love to sleep with books spread around on the bed~ they're comforting!  My husband can't get into that little habit of mine, though, so I'm trying to reform and keep my current reads on the bedside stand.   One of the books I'm reading at the moment is a biography of Chopin, because after a lifetime of putting it off I finally started taking piano lessons last year!  Usually, though, I go for fiction.  Everything I know I've learned from fiction, reading it or writing it!

Guilty pleasure?

You'll laugh at my guilty pleasure.  I live in the woods and I love to pick up rocks, especially ones with holes in them.  I bring them home and string them up with beads and feathers and stuff like that then I hang them from the ceiling.  Told you you'd laugh.

Favorite ice cream flavor? I adore jamoca almond fudge ice cream

1. Three interesting facts about me:  

I am a certified "Balloonologist" which basically means I can make almost anything out of twisty balloons. My favorite balloon animal to twist is a lobster. It's adorable, but you may have to trust me on that one.

I have seen more than my fair share of really cheesy retro action movies due to the influence of my two brothers. I have a particular soft spot in my heart for Commando with Arnold Schwarzenegger, Remo Williams, the Adventure Begins, and Big Trouble in Little China.

And I used to volunteer at a rehabilitation center for injured birds of prey. It was one of the coolest things I've ever done. I learned falconry, and had the chance to hold a golden eagle in my arms.

2:  If you had to choose, which writer would you consider a mentor?

When I started writing, I cut my teeth writing a blend of Science Fiction and Romance.  As I started out Linnea Sinclair was a huge help and inspiration to me. We are still good friends, and she taught me a lot about working with Science Fiction in the context of my other story elements, and keeping my science grounded in believability.

3. Tell us a little something about the book?

LEGACY OF THE CLOCKWORK KEY is the story of Meg Whitlock, a clockmaker's daughter in Victorian London who finds herself working as a housemaid in the dour home of a mysterious baron who insists everything within the house remain exactly as it had been the day before. The only thing she has left of her family is an old pocket watch that she carries on a chain around her neck. Determined to repair the watch and return it to it's former beauty, she enlists the help of the stablehand, a boy with a bitter past and unsavory heritage.

Together they discover the watch isn't a watch at all. It's a key that leads Meg to clues that reveal the truth about an underground society of inventors and the deadly secrets that they keep. 

4. What inspired you to write The Legacy of the Clockwork Key?

LEGACY OF THE CLOCKWORK KEY was inspired by a picture that I saw on a blog that was doing a feature on Steampunk.  It was of a raven with wheels for feet and it had gears in its chest. The raven intrigued me, and I started to pay more attention to the Steampunk subculture.  I wondered "Who would invent something like this?" and a book was born. I'm very inspired by the spirit of invention, and I wanted to write an adventure story that sweeps you away into into a world of danger and mystery but still feels like it could be real and exist in our world.  I had more fun writing this story than I can even say, and I can't wait to share it.

5. Favorite dessert?

My favorite dessert is pumpkin pie with fresh, hand-whipped cream.  I love it.  I love it so much I'll eat it in pretty much any form, including pumpkin ice-cream and pumpkin cheesecake.  There's nothing better than that.

In his soft gaze lingered a mute invitation. A fervent question. Trent took my hand. Unspoken feelings tangled as our fingers intertwined. Complicated veil of yearning drifted between our eyes. My arms encircled his waist. I rested my head against his chest. Inhaled his scent, a mixture of soap, minty toothpaste, and boy. Listened to his heartbeat. We exhaled simultaneously and he pressed his face in my hair. Calming and at the same time-intense.

I clutched at the front of his shirt and tilted my head. Our lips were a breath apart. My stomach flipped with anticipation. Our mouths touched lightly, but it quickly turned into a passionate kiss and we melted together. All thoughts of lycans and death disappeared. My eyelids fluttered closed. My arms wrapped around his body like entwining ivy. Clinging and pulling him to me, kissing him with all the repressed emotions whirling inside me.

Apart from the knee-jerking kiss, something tangible stirred inside me. It inhabited the center of my chest, a murmur of power unfurling. It tickled, then pulsed, then burned. The strange, thrumming energy felt like a bud blossoming into a flower and stretching toward the sun.

Black magick. My magick. His magick.

I should have been more scared and worried. But I wasn’t, although my heart beat too fast. And my voice had dried up. I forced myself to break the kiss, but didn’t move—because this is the weird part—I didn’t want him to stop holding me….
