Review: Half-Blood (Covenant #1) by Jennifer Armentrout

Title: Half-Blood (Covenant #1)
Author: Jennifer Armentrout
Published: October 18th 2011 by Spencer Hill Press

Book Description:

The Hematoi descend from the unions of gods and mortals, and the children of two Hematoi-pure-bloods-have godlike powers. Children of Hematoi and mortals-well, not so much. Half-bloods only have two options: become trained Sentinels who hunt and kill daimons or become servants in the homes of the pures. Seventeen-year-old Alexandria would rather risk her life fighting than waste it scrubbing toilets, but she may end up slumming it anyway. There are several rules that students at the Covenant must follow. Alex has problems with them all, but especially rule #1:Relationships between pures and halfs are forbidden. Unfortunately, she's crushing hard on the totally hot pure-blood Aiden. But falling for Aiden isn't her biggest problem--staying alive long enough to graduate the Covenant and become a Sentinel is. If she fails in her duty, she faces a future worse than death or slavery: being turned into a daimon, and being hunted by Aiden. And that would kind of suck.

My Thoughts:

Love or Duty
Which is far more important?

After reading Daimon, the novel’s prequel, I immediately got hooked because of the storyline and the kick-ass heroine. Now that I’ve read the first book, I can’t help but get this same feeling back when I was reading the Vampire Academy series by Richelle Mead. But that didn’t stop me from liking this book, although I do get bothered with some parts of the story because of those similarities.
Alex is a strong-willed and stubborn girl and I really love reading novels with strong female leads because it excites me. There were times that she’s a bit annoying though. There’s a love triangle in this story and personally, it’s really hard choosing between two hot guys. Aiden is quiet, responsible and a strong, dedicated sentinel, while Seth is charismatic, mysterious and more of the “bad boy” type of guy.
I love how Armentrout created the world of Hematois and Daimons. It’s action-packed and a page turner.
Vampire Academy fans will most likely have mixed feelings about this series, but nevertheless, I still recommend that you guys give this a shot.

I give this book three whales.

  1. While the ending isn't a cliffhanger, but things are far from settled. Can't wait for the next book. The problem with reading books before they actually come out is having to wait even longer for the next one. The whole read was really great, this is the book to read, Its one of my favorites. I also hope all of you will soon read this because you will love it! You will not be disappointed when you read it!
