Review- Divergent (Divergent #1) by Veronica Roth

Title: Divergent (Divergent #1)
Author: Veronica Roth
Published: May 3rd 2011 by Katherine Tegen Books

Book Description:
In Beatrice Prior's dystopian Chicago, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue—Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is—she can't have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself.
During the highly competitive initiation that follows, Beatrice renames herself Tris and struggles to determine who her friends really are—and where, exactly, a romance with a sometimes fascinating, sometimes infuriating boy fits into the life she's chosen. But Tris also has a secret, one she's kept hidden from everyone because she's been warned it can mean death. And as she discovers a growing conflict that threatens to unravel her seemingly perfect society, she also learns that her secret might help her save those she loves… or it might destroy her.

Debut author Veronica Roth bursts onto the literary scene with the first book in the Divergent series—dystopian thrillers filled with electrifying decisions, heartbreaking betrayals, stunning consequences, and unexpected romance

My Thoughts:

I am Divergent.
And I can’t be controlled

This Book is a highly anticipated dystopic novel and said to rival the Hunger Games. I' am a dystopic fanatic and this book really did lived up my high expectations. I devoured this book so quickly.....The book is fast paced and action pack, it makes you want to turn those pages and see what happens next.
I love how creative the author is. She made her made up world believable. I couldn't help but immerse myself into it.
The plot is unique! There is action, romance and NO LOVE TRIANGLE!! which is why I enjoy reading this book because I don't get to choose between two hot guys (sigh). The characters are very likable. Beatrice is one of my favorite heroine, she is strong minded, determined and independent. Her actions and decisions gave me a nail-bitting and heart-pounding moments.Four is a Sex GOD, he is mysterious! I love the way he protects Tris. I don't mind the PG moment in this book, it made the story more believable. There is sexual harassment, bullying and some steamy moments.
Overall, I enjoyed Divergent and would recommend it. This is a book I wouldn't mind reading again and again. I can't wait for Book TWO!!

I give it 4 whales.

  1. I just read Divergent for the first time on the weekend and it was SPECTACULAR. O agree with EVERYTHING you've said. I loved the absence of a love triangle, and just the genuine feeling and developing relationship and FRIENDSHIP between Tris and Four. I love how he looked out for her and protected her. And yes! THE PG moment! Well, there were a few... but the ones between Four and Tris? They're teenagers. Guess what? Teenagers--wait for this--make out. Kiss. GO a LOT further. The characters seemed so real and layered and nuanced. Tris is one of my new all time favorite characters, and Four is my new fave YA boy.

I think Divergent would even work for ppl unsure of Dystopians. Like, Dystopian for people who don't like dystopians. It weas fantastic. SO IS YOUR REVIEW! Love it xx

  2. 5 WHALES PLEASE! LOL OMG I agree with you for Four being a 'SEX GOD'. He's everything!! And digging the instructor-student relationship also. <3 But it's sad that Will got killed. I think Christina will soon find out that Tris shot Will. And Al, Al was such a sweet guy! Gosh, the whole waiting for the Insurgent book is torturous. Luckily, I'm reading it next week! And yes, this is much better than The Hunger Games. <3

    I'm loving your blog! <3
